First off, Hi, I'm new, I spin poi and a little bit of staff. I was wondering if people would be interested in getting together sunday nights, (or whatever works best) for a fire jam here in the fort. Maybe like city park or if someone else knows a good spot...

OH THANK GOD!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO MEET UP!!!
I've been looking all over the internet for people who want to meet up! finally!

I'm down any night of the week.... but I live in an apartment... so I have no backyard.
It's kinda risky to just go to the park, you can get an open flame ticket or some bullshit.
It's pretty cheap to get a permit, but maybe they'd just leave us alone. The concept of having to pay someone to spin fire is really obnoxious.

Let me know what you think!!!

hmmmmmmmmm, that's a good point. I'm in an apartment too... I know that if we find like a store's parking lot it's considered private property and we can burn there without any trouble ( I don't really know anyplace, but if you do...) At the park we might be able to argue ourselves into the the recreational category; "Recreational fires are those fires that burn clean, dry wood or charcoal where the fuel is not contained in an incinerator, outdoor fireplace, barbecue grill, or barbecue pit and with a total fuel area of three feet or less in diameter and two feet or less in height for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, warmth or other similar purposes." If we stay on the parking lot and take the obvious safety precautions (bucket of water, wet towel), we might be ok. I don't know, I'd be willing to risk it, (I haven't lit up in FOREVER). We could try it at the park, see what happens... If you don't want to, I completely understand. (Paying people to spin fire is silly, we'll find somewhere.)

Yeah I'd be down to risk it. I bet city park would be fairly safe, I don't know of any store parking lots, that's a good idea though. I've got a few friends that I know will be down to join us. Got any friends who will be joining you? When would be a good day to meet up?

I might know a few kids, no spinners though. We could do this Sunday, might be a bit chilly though, or we could wait and see what the weather's doing next weekend. Do you know any drummers?

Unfortunately I don't know any drummers. That would be the icing on the cake. I've been trying to save up to buy my own.
I've been told that in Denver, at Confluence Park every sunday, all kinds of people meet up and there's a bunch of drummers. I'll ask my buddy if he knows any, I have a feeling he might. So how about this coming sunday? if the weathers good.

I'm excited for you guys to get spinning going in foco. I know a couple people there who spin. I just moved back to az myself. Just wanted to let you know, at city park you may have to deal with police. They didnt seem very understanding with us, it has been a year... but we were well equipped with safety gear and all. We were threatened with fines but of course cooperated so we went on our way. Started spinning in my yard. May I make a suggestion?
Many of the businesses love to have little shows, belly dancers and such. If you ask around, maybe at the alley cat and the like, theyd allow you to use their parking areas. Its private property that way. :)

That is a great suggestion. My fiance` is a belly dancer. I've been thinking about talking to some businesses.

hey, this sunday I'm actually going to confluence, but next weekend for sure. We should ask around, the ally cat is a good idea, maybe one of the bars... That would be awsome if your fiance could come and dance, I'll ask around and see if i can't get any drummers to join us.

Yeah we should ask around, maybe Avo's would be down. I spent like $150 on drums the other day, trying to learn how to play them now. Do you know ANY one else in Foco that spins?

I wish i knew more people to come spin. once we find a place maybe we can advertise (flyers around campus/town) we can't be the only fire spinners in foco!! I do know kids who can play the drums, so i'll find someone to come. Avo's is a good idea, i can ask there tomorow. if they give us the ok, we should do it sunday.

There are other fire spinners in Fort Collins, as well as up and down the front range. There's even someone who hosts a semi-regular gathering, though I'm not sure when the next one is.

To get in touch with them, I'd recommend joining the Colorado Fire Tribe list:

                          groups.yahoo.com/group/ColoradoFireTribe

If it involves fire performance in Colorado, that's the place to ask/find out about it.

At the risk of being a buzzkill, don't assume that private property solves the problem of where to spin -- the law doesn't go away just because the land is privately owned, and the fire department and police officials can still enforce it. Wildfire is such a persistent problem in Colorado that you may find them particularly touchy. Even the folks down at Confluence have occasional problems, and that's an expanse of concrete next to a river.

thanks the advise papa, there's another spot, no grass, gravel, that would be good too.

ok, so I am going to be spinning fire tomorow (sunday) night around 8:30 in the alley right before s. Howes st. on Mulberry(take a left off of mulberry), in the apartment parking lot on your imediate left, it is not easily visible from the street, but wear your running shoes just in case(lol). I have drummers and possibly a few more spinners comming. Hope you make it and hope to make this a regular occurance.

Damn I need to stay updated, I slept all day, I totally could have made it tonight... my bad.

But it turns out I know a couple drummers as well, it sounds like we might be able to have a substantial gathering cuz I have some friends who spin too. Let me know how tonight went, hope the cops didn't chase you off, and we should plan on next Sunday fer sures (or another day it doesn't matter to me).

I like the flier idea, I'm positive some people will show up.

there is a group of us that meet to spin. We try to every month but haven't since Feb. We have an email list that is sent out. We meet at someones home, have a a small bonfire etc. Dummers are sure welcome and we do a little drumming too. We try to keep it to the spectator element down so a public flyer would be out for that.
Other than that i just spin in front of my house when there is just a few of us. I live just outside of the city limits. My neighbors like it if we aren't too noisy, they go to bed EARRRly...

If you are interested PM me your email and i will get it added to the list. I would be interested as would the rest of us to spin where ever you all find too!
